1.1INTRODUCTION

This document contains the standard operating procedure for installing Veritas

Netbackup 6.0 for Windows Server. The procedure would be performed on a

Windows 2003 Server that would assume the role of Master Backup Server.

1.2VERITAS NETBACKUP MASTER SERVER INSTALLATION

1. Log on as veritas and password is xxxxxxx

Note: User account veritas has been created with the Local Admin rights.

2. Insert the VERITAS NetBackup Enterprise Server 6.0 (Windows 32-bit

Server and Client) installation CD in the drive and the VERITAS NetBackup

installation browser will start automatically.

3. Click NetBackup Installation.

4. On the following screen, select Install Server Software.

5. The Welcome to the NetBackup Setup Wizard screen appears. Click Next.

6. On the License Agreement screen, accept the license agreement and click

Next.

7. On the NetBackup Installation Type screen, choose Install to this

computer only and Custom. Click Next.

8. On the NetBackup License Key and Server Type screen, perform the

following:

a. Enter the license keys for these options (can be found on the Software

License Certificate).

b. Select the icon next to NetBackup Master Server.

9. On the Netbackup Features screen, click Change.

10.Type the new installation path as D:\Program Files\Veritas. Click Next.

11.On the NetBackup Port Numbers screen, click Next.

12.On the NetBackup Services screen, check these boxes:

a. ‘Use the built-in system account’ check box;

b. ‘Automatic’ startup type;

c. ‘Start NetBackup Server Services After Install’ check box.

Click Next.

13. On the NetBackup System Names screen, click Next.

14. On the NetBackup Enterprise Media Manager screen, verify Netbackup

Master Server’s name as VERITAS01. Click Next.

15. Click Install on the Ready to Install the Program screen.

16. On the System Validation Complete screen, click Add Keys.

17. (Optional) Uncheck ‘Launch Netbackup Administration Console now’ to

start the console later.

Add these keys by clicking the button for each key:

NetBackup Option,Cross Platform,Library Based Tape Drive

Support,v6.0,License;

Click Add.

Click OK.

1.3AIX CLIENTS INSTALLATION (<CLIENT>)

This portion contains the standard operating procedure for installing Veritas

Netbackup 6.0 AIX Client. The procedure would be performed on AIX servers which

will be the Netbackup clients.

1. Log in as the root user on the Production Server (<CLIENT>). Type

Username: root and password: xxxxxx. If you are already logged in, but are

not the root user, run the following command: su - root

2. Mount the Netbackup Client CD-ROM (All Unix Clients).

Note: To go to terminal, click Personal Application – Terminal. Type

mount /cdrom.

3. Change the working directory to the CD-ROM directory.

For example: cd /cdrom

Type ls –l to verify CDROM is mounted.

4. Load and install the software by running the install script. Type the following

command:

./install

5. Provide these answers to prompts below:

o Do you wish to continue?

Answer y.

o Do you wish to install the Netbackup Client Software for this client?

Answer y.

6. Specify Client Name as <client> and Veritas Server Name as VERITAS01

when asked.

7. Close the terminal and open a new one. Type umount /cdrom to unmount

the CDROM.

8. Take out the Client CD and insert the UNIX and Linux Options CD to install

the DB2 agents.

9. Open a terminal and type mount /cdrom.

10. Go to cd /cdrom and type ./install

11. Choose option 2 to install the Netbackup Database Agent Software. Type

2. Press Enter.

12. The following prompt appears:

a. Do you want to do a local installation? (y/n) [n]

Type y. Press Enter.

b. A menu of all database agents available on the CD-ROM are displayed.

c. Select the NetBackup for DB2 option. Type 1 and press Enter.

d. Type q to quit selecting options.

e. A prompt appears asking if the list is correct.

Type y. Type Enter.

f. Type q to quit from the script. Press Enter.

13. Close the terminal.

14. Type umount /cdrom to unmount the CD. Eject the CD.

15. Change to the NetBackup /bin directory. Type: cd

usr/openv/netbackup/bin

16. Enter the following: ./db2_config

17. The following appears:

a. Please specify the DB2 instance home path name:

Type /home/<client>32 and press Enter.

b. Do you have other DB2 instances? (y/n) [n]

Type y. Press Enter.

c. Please specify the DB2 instance home path name:

Type /home/db2db and press Enter.

d. Do you have other DB2 instances? (y/n) [n]

Type n. Press Enter.

18. Close the terminal.

19. Repeat steps 1 until 13 on the Development server.

1.4SPECIFYING THE NETBACKUP MASTER SERVER FROM THE CLIENT

1. Issue the following command to start the NetBackup Backup, Archive, and

Restore interface:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/jbpSA &

Host name: <CLIENT>

User name: root

Password: xxxxxx

2. Go to Action – Specify Netbackup Machines and Policy Type.

3. Click to change and verify below details.

a. Server to use for backups and restore: VERITAS01

b. Source clients for restore: <CLIENT>

1.5NETBACKUP MASTER SERVER INITIAL CONFIGURATION

Note: Ensure that the tape library has been correctly configured for Windows.

NetBackup cannot function reliably unless devices are correctly installed and

configured.

1. If you have logged of from the server, log in back as veritas and password

is xxxxxx

2. Insert the NetBackup installation CD in the drive.

3. Go to Additional Products .

4. Click Additional Products Installation.

5. Click on Netbackup Tape Device Drivers (32-bit).

Recommended:

Download latest Veritas Tape Device Driver from

www.support.veritas.com.

Save the package in D:/Program Files/Veritas/Tape Device

Drivers

Run the installation package after successful save file operation.

6. Open the Administration Console on the desktop and click on the

Getting Started icon. Else it will pop up automatically after first time

installation.

7. The Getting Started - Welcome to NetBackup window will appear.

8. Click Next at the Getting Started window.

13. You should be able to see below devices. Click Next at the Backup

Devices window.

14. Ensure below devices are selected (ticked). Click Next at the Drag and

Drop Configuration window.

15. Click Yes to continue.

16. The Updating Device will appear. Click Next to continue.

17. At the Configure Storage Units window, verify veritas01-hcart3-robot-

tld-0 is checked. Click Next.

23. Choose Online, hot catalog backup. Click Next.

Differential. Click Next.

Veritas\CatalogRecovery. Leave Logon and Password blank. Click Next.

1.6CREATING BACKUP POLICIES FOR AIX CLIENTS

Note: Perform this step only after Netbackup AIX Client has been installed. For

detailed steps on creating backup policies, please refer to Netbackup System

Administrator’s Guide for Windows, Vol 1 and Vol 2.

1. Log on to Master Backup Server. (Username: veritas, password: zaq1XSW@)

2. Start the Netbackup Administration Console.

3. To create a Standard policy type for initial back up of the system files(exclude DB2

databases and MQ Log):

Type Name: Weekly-Backup. Then click Start Window.

Note: The time specified in the Start Window is the time range where a

backup may start or be initiated. It is not the duration of how long a backup

will take.

1.7Steps for Creating A Policy To Backup All Data Files on <CLIENT>

Follow the steps below to create a policy that backs up all the files as per listed in

the rest of the backup policies.

Step 1: Creating New Volume Pool

a. At the Master server, open the Administration Console.

b. Go to Media and Device Management – Media – Volume Pool and press

right-click. Select New. Give a Pool Name and Description, click OK.

Step 2: Creating New Backup Policy

a. Go to Netbackup Management – Policies, press right-click. Select New

Policy.

b. Type a Policy Name, click OK.

c. At Attributes tab, select these details:

o Policy type: Standard

o Policy volume pool: the name of the volume pool created in

Step 1.

d. At Schedules tab, create a new schedule. Name the new schedule.

o If the policy is to run on scheduled basis, fill-in the Start Window.

o Else, leave the Start Window blank.

e. At Clients tab, type in client name as <CLIENT>.

f. At Backup Selections tab, fill in the files and folders to be backed-up, one at

a time.

Step 3: Performing Manual Backup

a. Go to Netbackup Management – Policies. Right-click the policy name

created in Step 2.

b. Select Manual Backup. Click OK twice.

c. View progress at Activity Monitor.

Step 4: Identifying the media used for backup

d. Go to Media and Device Management – Media – Volume Pool.

e. Select the Volume Pool created in Step 1 and expand it.

Take note of the media name and slot number in that volume pool.

1.8UNINSTALLING NETBACKUP SERVER

1. Insert the VERITAS NetBackup Enterprise Server 6.0 (Windows 32-bit Server

and Client) installation CD in the drive and the VERITAS NetBackup

installation browser will start automatically.

Netbackup will detect any backup devices installed in you Windows environment,

provided the devices are with appropriate Netbackup backup devices license and

supported by Netbackup. Therefore, to uninstall it from the Netbackup

environment, refer to the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 documentation

provided by Microsoft.
