Cefonicid

Delayed hypersensitivity?: case reportA morbilliform rash developed in a 48-year-old woman after

receiving cefonicid for a buccal infection. During the secondday of IM cefonicid 500mg therapy [frequency ofadministration not stated], 6 hours after the third dose of thedrug, she developed a generalised rash of mildly pruritic,erythematous papules, which persisted for 4 days.

A year later the patient was rechallenged with the drug, and3 hours later she again developed induration at the site ofintradermal cefonicid, which increased in size with time. Patchtests were only positive for cefonicid at 48 and 96 hours. An IMchallenge with cefonicid 50mg produced a mild morbilliformrash on the patient’s trunk and forearms 6 hours afteradministration.
