Reactions 1181 - 8 Dec 2007 Imipramine Extrapyramidal symptoms in a child: case report A 10-year-old girl had been receiving methylphenidate and valproic acid for 1 year for the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and childhood bipolar disorder. She started receiving imipramine 25 mg/day for depressive mood and aggression. On day 3 of the treatment, she developed oculogyric crisis symptoms. The symptoms included ocular pain and a sustained upward gaze. She received an IM dose of benzatropine. Within a few hours, her oculogyric crisis symptoms improved completely. Her blood valproic acid concentration was normal. Imipramine was discontinued. She continued to receive methylphenidate and valproic acid for 1 year. She did not experience any recurrence of extrapyramidal symptoms. Author comment: "It seems that the [extrapyramidal symptoms] were related to imipramine." Tahiroglu AY, et al. Imipramine
