Imipramine Hepatotoxicity: case report 00
Treatment with imipramine 50mg at night was initiated in a 19-year-old mentally retarded man following development of aggressive and resistive behaviour. He was hepatitis 8 -positive, but had normal liver function .
Over the next 4 days the pat ient became increasingly agitated , developed severe insomnia, was ataxic , and had multiple bruising and abrasions (many infected) from frequent falls . Imipramine was withdrawn on day 8. Upon admission his temperature was 38.soC and HR was 110j min . Abnormal laboratory parameters included a white blood cell count of 22,300, serum glutamic oxaloacetic acid and pyruvic aminotransferase levels of 745 and 286 Uj L. respectively, and elevations in lactic dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase and alkaline phosphatase He was rehydrated and received both IV and oral cephalosporins .
