Neuroleptic malignant syndrome: case reportA 57-year-old man with severe cancer pain began oral

morphine analgesia with adjuvant prochlorperazine andimipramine [dosages not stated]. He then began to experienceagitation, anxiety, insomnia and tremor [duration of therapynot stated], followed by fever (38–39°C), hallucinations,disorientation, muscle rigidity, labile blood pressure andrhabdomyolysis with a creatine kinase level of 5810 U/L(normal < 132). Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) wassuspected. Prochlorperazine and imipramine werediscontinued and he was treated with dantrolene. Hissymptoms almost completely resolved within 7 days. Hesubsequently underwent a phenol block for his cancer pain.Asakura Y, et al.
