OMepivacaine overdose
Dysarthria, myoclonus and confusion followingmedication error, treated with soya oil emulsion:case report
A 19-year-old woman received local anaesthesia withmepivacaine for the repair of a wrist injury. Due to amedication error, she received a 50mL injection of 2%mepivacaine (1000mg) instead of 50mL of 1% mepivacaine(500mg). A few minutes later, she reported dysarthria; shesubsequently developed myoclonia of her arms whichprogressively worsened, and she became confused.Oxygen, clonazepam and midazolam were administeredwith no improvement. She received 100mL of 20% IV soyaoil emulsion [Medialipide] and her symptoms resolvedimmediately. Her surgery proceeded, which wasuneventful.Charbonneau H, et al.
