Reactions 1130 - 2 Dec 2006 Atorvastatin/fluvastatin Muscle pain and allergic-toxic hepatitis: 2 case reports One patient developed muscle pain during treatment with atorvastatin and another patient developed allergic-toxic hepatitis during treatment with fluvastatin. A patient [age and sex not stated], who received atorvastatin [dosage not stated] for hyperlipidaemia, developed pain in both shoulders, arms and thighs and an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) on two different occasions [duration of treatment before reaction onset not stated]. Polymyalgia rheumatica was suspected and, both times, the patient’s symptoms and ESR improved during cortisone therapy. It was later revealed that the pain was induced by atorvastatin. [Patient outcome not stated]. A 75-year-old woman developed a fever of 39.8°C that lasted for several days, pruritus and eosinophilia of 9.2% during the days immediately following treatment with fluvastatin 40mg [therapeutic indication and frequency not stated]. She also had hyperbilirubinuria, acholia, and transaminase-, alkaline phosphatase- and γ-glutamyl transferase-elevations. Allergic-toxic statin-induced hepatitis was diagnosed.
