Reactions 1086 - 28 Jan 2006 S Citalopram Diplopia: case report A 28-year-old man started receiving citalopram 20 mg/day in the morning, for depression. Twelve days later, he developed incapacitating diplopia; he also had diarrhoea and memory complaints. He was frightened and described his condition as being ‘terrible’. He also reported that he saw ‘everything in two’, that he did not know what was real and what was artificial, and that if he concentrated and closed one eye he was ‘able to differentiate the real one’. Neurological and ophthalmologic examinations were normal. Citalopram was discontinued, and after 60 hours, his diplopia had completely resolved, and he felt relaxed. Author comment: "Sometimes, patients with conversion disorder may present with symptoms such as diplopia, but here, the diplopia was drug-induced and disappeared after citalopram was discontinued."
