Reactions 1366 - 27 Aug 2011 S Citalopram Seizures: case report A 50-year-old woman, who had a history of major depressive disorder, presented to the emergency department in October 2010 after developing two generalised tonic-clonic seizures on 2 consecutive days. She showed confusion upon presentation. Oral citalopram 20 mg/day [frequency of administration not stated] had been initiated 4 days before the first seizure. She was admitted for observation for 4 days in the general medical ward. Citalopram was discontinued upon admission; she had no further seizures during her stay in the hospital and during a 1-month follow-up period. Author comment: "[T]his is the first report to document that citalopram may induce seizures at low doses, even in a patient who had tolerated another SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) in the past."
