First report of anorgasmia: case reportThe following report describes a case of citalopram-induced
anorgasmia that was treated successfully with cyproheptadine.A 47-year-old man was treated with citalopram 60 mg/day
[duration of therapy not stated] for depression. Following thestart of therapy, he experienced anorgasmia. When the dosageof citalopram was decreased to 40 mg/day anorgasmiaimproved, but his depressive symptoms started to re-emerge.
Initially, the man was treated with cyproheptadine 2mg, butno effect on anorgasmia was noted. He was then givencyproheptadine 4mg the evening prior to intercourse, and hisanorgasmia resolved. He did not experience any adverseeffects over a 6-month period. He decided to stop takingcitalopram and his depressive symptoms recurred. He wasthen treated with fluoxetine and he subsequently experiencedsome delay in ejaculation.
