★Clomipramine
First report of musical hallucinations in an elderlypatient: case report
Anxiety and depression in a 67-year-old woman weresuccessfully controlled with clomipramine 75 mg/day;however, the patient began to experience musicalhallucinations. The music was from well known tunes and thepatient considered the hallucinations to be pleasant. Withindays the hallucinations became louder and distorted.
Decreasing the clomipramine dosage to 35 mg/day reducedthe volume of the hallucinations without return of anxiety anddepression. Dosage reduction to 10 mg/day was eventuallyachieved and the patient reported that the levels ofhallucinations were tolerable. Musical hallucinations havebeen reported with other antidepressant therapy (amtriptylineand nortriptyline)Vallada HP, et al. Musical hallucination triggered by clomipramine?
