R 2 M o 0 4 Here is a group of molybdate compounds that has never b e e n fully exp lo i ted . They've found important applications in catalysts, ceramics, ferti l izers, pharmaceut icals , pigments and metal-treating compounds.
W e don' t know what else they a r e g o o d for, but w e do know that they a re versatile and show great potent ia l .
Here a r e their properties — maybe you'll find just what you are look ing fo r .
mo"5 i / !3 rl.r?'*o i o n . Alkali, ammonium, Mg, Be, and Tl molybdates are soluble in water. In solution molybdate ion is a corrosion-inhibitor and a powerful catalyst.

Reduction is highly photosensitive in presence of certain organic acids. Stronger reduction with Zn and Cd gives black insoluble deposits of Mo ( 0 H ) 3 .

of striking color. Alkali, ammonium and alkaline earth salts are soluble, others mostly insoluble.

Acids such as H3PMo12O40 and H4SiMo12040 precipitate organic bases, but form heavy metal salts that are soluble both in water and many organic solvents.
O f o a i l i c c o m p l e x e s . Molybdates form soluble complexes with many hydroxy and dibasic acids and with polyhydric phenols.
Molybdates now available in commercial or experimental quantities include salts of Li, N a , K, Ag , Ca, Ba, Sr, Zn, Ce, Pb, N i , and Co .
