    Instructions for the Chanting of the r Nsiha-kavaca-stotram

    Ideally chant the Sanskrit verses of the Kavaca three times a day (morning, noon, and evening). Atleast once a day. If youre married, best together with your wife/husband.

    Before you begin chanting, do the following:

    1. Put on tilak and devotional clothes.

    2. Sit down in front of a picture of Lord Nsihadeva (or his deity form if available).You face south, Lord Nsihadeva faces north.

    3. Perform acamana.

    4. Make a small puja to Lord Nsihadeva (incense, ghee lamp, flower)

    Chant the Kavaca.

    After the chanting, read aloud from a chapter of the 7th Canto of rmad-Bhgavatam, Chapters 1-10(Nsiha lila).

    nsiha-kavaca vakyeprahldenodita pur

    sarva-raka-kara punyasarvopadrava-nanam

    I shall now recite the Nsiha-kavaca, formerly spoken by Prahlda Mahrja. It is most pious,vanquishes all kinds of impediments, and provides one all protection.

    (2)

    sarva-sampat-kara caivasvarga-moka-pradyakamdhytv nsiha devea

    hema-sihsana-sthitam

    It bestows upon one all opulences and can give one elevation to the heavenly planets or liberation.One should meditate on Lord Nsiha, Lord of the universe, seated upon a golden throne.

    vivtsya tri-nayanaarad-indu-sama-prabhamlakmyligita-vmgam

    vibhtibhir upritam

    His mouth is wide open, He has three eyes, and He is as radiant as the autumn moon. He isembraced by Lakmdev on his left side, and His form is the shelter of all opulences, both materialand spiritual.

    catur-bhuja komalgasvara-kuala-obhitam

    saroja-obitoraskaratna-keyra-mudritam

    The Lord has four arms, and His limbs are very soft. He is decorated with golden earrings. Hischest is resplendent like the lotus flower, and His arms are decorated with jewel-studdedornaments.

    sphuran mikya-dptibhi

    He is dressed in a spotless yellow garment, which exactly resembles molten gold. He is the originalcause of existence, beyond the mundane sphere, for the great demigods headed by Indra. Heappears bedecked with rubies which are blazingly effulgent.

    virjita-pada-dvandvaakha-cakrdi-hetibhi

    garutmat ca vinaytstyamna mudnvitam

    His two feet are very attractive, and He is armed with various weapons such as the conch, disc, etc.Garua joyfully offers prayers with great reverence.

    sva-ht-kamala-samvsaktv tu kavaca pathetnsiho me ira ptu

    loka-rakrtha-sambhava

    Having seated Lord Nsihadeva upon the lotus of one's heart, one should recite the followingmantra: May Lord Nsiha, who protects all the planetary systems, protect my head.

    sarvago pi stambha-vsaphala me rakatu dhvanim

    nsiho me dau ptu

    soma-srygni-locana

    Although the Lord is all-pervading, He hid Himself within a pillar. May He protect my speech andthe results of my activities. May Lord Nsiha, whose eyes are the sun, and fire, protect my eyes.

    nsa me siha-nas tu

    mukha lakm-mukha-priya

    May Lord Nhari, who is pleased by the prayers offered by the best of sages, protect my memory.May He who has the nose of a lion protect my nose, and may He whose face is very dear to thegoddess of fortune protect my mouth.

    sarva-vidydhipa ptunsiho rasana mama

    vaktra ptv indu-vadanasad prahlda-vandita

    May Lord Nsiha, who is the knower of all sciences, protect my sense of taste. May He whoseface is beautiful as the full moon and who is offered prayers by Prahlda Mahrja protect my face.

    nsihah ptu me kahaskandhau bh-bhd ananta-kt

    divystra-obhita-bhujansiha ptu me bhujau

    May Lord Nsiha protect my throat. He is the sustainer of the earth and the performer ofunlimitedly wonderful activities. May He protect my shoulders. His arms are resplendent withtranscendental weapons. May He protect my shoulders.

    karau me deva-varadonsiha ptu sarvata

    hdaya yogi-sdhya canivsa ptu me hari

    May the Lord, who bestows benedictions upon the demigods, protect my hands, and may Heprotect me from all sides. May He who is achieved by the perfect yogs protect my heart, and mayLord Hari protect my dwelling place.

    manogra prvata ptumah-vrgrajo gnitamah-viur dakie tu

    mah-jvalas tu nairta

    May that most ferocious personality protect me from the east. May He who is superior to thegreatest heroes protect me from the southeast, which is presided over by Agni. May the SupremeViu protect me from the south, and may that person of blazing luster protect me from thesouthwest.

    pacime ptu sarveo

    dii me sarvatomukhansiha ptu vyavysaumy bhaa-vigraha

    May the Lord of everything protect me from the west. His faces are everywhere, so please may Heprotect me from this direction. May Lord Nsiha protect me from the northwest, which ispredominated by Vyu, and may He whose form is in itself the supreme ornament protect me fromthe north, where Soma resides.

    ny ptu bhadro mesarva-magala-dyakasasra-bhayata ptumtyor mtyur n-kear

    May the all-auspicious Lord, who Himself bestows all-auspiciousness, protect from the northeast,the direction of the sun-god, and may He who is death personified protect me from fear of deathand rotation in this material world.

    (21)ida nsiha-kavaca

    prahlda-mukha-maitambhaktimn ya pathenaitya

    sarva-ppai pramucyate

    This Nsiha-kavaca has been ornamented by issuing from the mouth of Prahlda Mahrja. Adevotee who reads this becomes freed from all sins.

    putravn dhanavn lokedrghyur upajyate

    ya ya kmayate kma

    ta ta prpnoty asaayam

    Whatever one desires in this world he can attain without doubt. One can have wealth, many sons,and a long life.

    (23)

    sarvatra jayam pnotisarvatra vijay bhavet

    bhmy antarka-divyn

    grahn vinivraam

    He becomes victorious who desires victory, and indeed becomes a conqueror. He wards off theinfluence of all planets, earthly, heavenly, and everything in between.

    (24)

    vcikoraga-sambhta-vipaharaa param

    brahma-rkasa-yakdrotsraa-kraam

    This is the supreme remedy for the poisonous effects of serpents and scorpions, and Brahma-rkasa ghosts and Yakas are driven away.

    (25)

    bhuje v tala-ptre vkavaca likhita ubham

    kara-mle dhta yenasidhyeyu karma-siddhaya

    One may write this most auspicious prayer on his arm, or inscribe it on a palm-leaf and attach it tohis wrist, and all his activities will become perfect.

    devsura-manuyeusva svam eva jaya labhet

    eka-sandhya tri-sandhya v

    ya pahen niyato nara

    One who regularly chants this prayer, whether once or thrice (daily), he becomes victoriouswhether among demigods, demons, or human beings.

    (27)

    sarva-magala-magalyabhukti mukti ca vindati

    dv-triati-sahasri

    pathet uddhtman nm

    One who with purified heart recites this prayer 32,000 times attains the most auspicious of allauspicious things, and material enjoyment and liberation are already understood to be available tosuch a person.

    (28)

    kavacasysya mantrasyamantra-siddhi prajyate

    anena mantra-rjenaktv bhasmbhir mantrnm

    This Kavaca-mantra is the king of all mantras. One attains by it what would be attained byanointing oneself with ashes and chanting all other mantras.

    (29)

    tilaka vinyased yas tutasya graha-bhaya harettri-vra japamnas tu

    datta vrybhimantrya ca

    Having marked ones body with tilaka, taking acamana with water, and reciting this mantra threetimes, one will find that the fear of all inauspicious planets is removed.
