Compulsive disorders: 3 case reportsA woman and two men aged 61–72 years developed a
compulsion to sing after starting pramipexole or ropinirole[routes and outcomes not stated] for Parkinson’s disease(PD).
A 61-year-old man with a 5-year history of PD startedlow-dose therapy with pramipexole at 0.18mg three timesdaily. Four weeks later he presented complaining of ’greatdiscomfort’ that was relieved by singing.
The remaining two patients aged 72 and 65 years,respectively, had recently been diagnosed with PD. Theman initially received levodopa, which was stopped due toadverse effects. Pramipexole was started and slowlytitrated. While receiving 2.1 mg/day he developed acompulsive need to sing [time to reaction onset not stated].Two weeks after starting extended-release ropinirole 4mg[frequency not stated], the 65-year-old woman presentedcomplaining of compulsive singing; punding andhypomania were noted.Borrue-Fernandez C.
