Carbon rod atomizer for use with atomic absorption spectrophotometers can handle samples as small as 0.5 μ\ and can see amounts of an element as small as 10"" gram. Applications are in life science and clinical as well as pollutant and petroleum areas. Model 6 consists of a carbon rod work head, power supply, and a gas control unit. The sample is syringed into an orifice in the rod, and electric current applied in a preprogrammed sequence causes heating and thus dries the sample, ashes it, and finally atomizes it. $2500.
