Urinary and faecal incontinence followingintrathecal administration: case report
Urinary and faecal incontinence occurred in a 15-year-oldboy following intrathecal administration of bupivacaine[‘Marcaıne’] for anaesthesia during bilateral arthroscopy of theknees.
The boy received hyperbaric bupivacaine 15mg (3ml)injected at the L3–L4 level. Surgery proceeded uneventfullyand the motor block was reversed 3–4 hours later. Thefollowing morning, he experienced urinary and faecalincontinence. His bowel dysfunction resolved the same dayand his bladder dysfunction resolved in 2 weeks.Mardirosoff C, et al.
