Reactions 1164 - 11 Aug 2007 Bupivacaine Aseptic meningitis: case report A 16-year-old boy undergoing orthopedic surgery received bupivacaine 10mg for spinal anaesthesia. He developed a headache a few hours later, which was followed by confusion and stupor [time to reaction onset not clearly stated]. On lumbar puncture, his cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was noted to be cloudy; his polymorphonuclear and protein levels were increased, and his glucose level was decreased. He immediately received antibacterials and corticosteroids, and his symptoms rapidly resolved; he did not experience any sequelae. Cultures from blood and CSF were negative, his antibacterials were stopped and corticosteroids were tapered.
