Bupivacaine

Aseptic meningitis: case reportA 16-year-old boy undergoing orthopedic surgery received

bupivacaine 10mg for spinal anaesthesia. He developed aheadache a few hours later, which was followed by confusionand stupor [time to reaction onset not clearly stated]. Onlumbar puncture, his cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was noted to becloudy; his polymorphonuclear and protein levels wereincreased, and his glucose level was decreased. Heimmediately received antibacterials and corticosteroids, andhis symptoms rapidly resolved; he did not experience anysequelae. Cultures from blood and CSF were negative, hisantibacterials were stopped and corticosteroids were tapered.
