Spinal myoclonus following spinal anaesthesia:case report

A patient [age and gender not stated] developed bilateral,symmetrical, rhythmic myoclonic lower leg movements onehour after receiving 0.5% hypobaric bupivacaine 2.5mL forL4–L5 spinal anaesthesia during a Baker’s cyst excision. Theseverity of the myoclonic movements gradually increased, asdid the frequency to about 20–30 per minute. The procedurewas interrupted, and the patient was treated with diazepaminitially on its own and again in combination with thiopentalsodium. However, the myoclonus persisted for approximately50 minutes, and only resolved after recovery from the spinalanaesthesia.
