1. GENERAL DESCRIPTIONBarometric pressure sensor which is used to detect changes in barometric pressure is located in the ECM. To com-pensate for this type of deviation, the amount of fuel injected is controlled. For example, the amount of fuel injected isdecreased to compensate for the lower intake air density caused by the decreased barometric pressure(high altitude).
2. DTC DESCRIPTIONIf the output voltage of the engine coolant temperature sensor is below 0.2V or above 4.8V for 60 seconds, the ETCMjudges this as a fault and DTC is set. The possible cause is the defective barometric pressure sensor built-in ETCM.ETCM sets barometric pressure to 100Kpa at idle or starting if the barometric pressure sensor is defective.If the vehicle is being driven under high altitude area, black smoke occurs and engine power decreases since themixture of air/fuel is rich.

1. ETC MODULE Component Inspection
1) Turn the ignition OFF.
2) Disconnect ETC module connector(E20, C40) in the side of engine.
3) Connect ETC module connector(E20, C40) after approx. 5~10 minutes.
4) Clear DTC using scan tool.
5) Drive the vehicle under conditions noted in failure records.
6) Check that DTC was displayed on the scan tool.
7) Was any DTC present?
YES
Go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
NO
Replace ETC module and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Repeat above component inspection 2~3 times.
VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR EFA221A7
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. Connect scan tool and select "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode and then clear DTC.
2. Drive the vehicle under conditions noted in failure records.
3. Did the DTC return?
YES
Begin the diagnosis again. IF same DTC is displayed on the scan tool after repeating inspection 2~3 times, replaceETC module. In most cases, the ETC module is not at fault. Investigate thoroughly before replacing the ETC module. Refer to ETC module diagnostic procedure.

1. GENERAL DESCRIPTIONIATS(Intake air temperature sensor) is located on the intake manifold and is together with booster pressure sensor.This part employs a thermistor(NTC) which is sensitive to changes in temperature.The electric resistance of a thermistor decreases as the temperature increases, and increases as the temperaturedecreases.The ETC module judges intake air temperature by the sensor output voltage and is used for injection quantity correc-tion, injection time correction.
2. DTC DESCRIPTIONIf the output voltage of the intake air temperature sensor is below 0.098V for more than 60 seconds at idle, at startingor at driving, the ETC MODULE judges this as a fault and DTC is set. The possible causes are short to ground, poorconnection of connector.In case of fail safe, ETCM sets temperature to -10 at starting and sets temperature to 30 at idle and at driving.Fuel quantity correction and injection time correction will not be controlled by ETCM depending on intake air temper-ature but vehicle can be driven.

1) Turn the ignition OFF.
2) Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector(E25).
3) Measure resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of intake air temperature sensor. Specification:
