Reactions 1318 - 11 Sep 2010 Pramipexole/ropinirole Hiccups: case report A 62-year-old man started treatment with oral pramipexole 0.18mg three times daily for Parkinson’s disease. A few days later, he developed hiccups which increased over the next days, and mild nausea which persisted for 10 days, even after discontinuing the drug. He was changed to ropinirole 2mg daily [route not stated], but hiccups immediately recurred. Ropinirole was discontinued, and no therapy was successful in treating the hiccups which lasted 1 week. Rasagiline and levodopa/ carbidopa were started, with no side-effects seen. He was hiccup-free at follow-up after 9 months. Author comment: "In this case, a strict relationship between hiccups and [dopamine agonists] intake seems likely as hiccups disappeared after drugs were stopped." Moja MC.
