Reactions 1335 - 22 Jan 2011 Ropivacaine Abnormal facial movements treated with soya oil emulsion: case report A patient [age and sex not stated], who had undergone a radical prostatectomy, received a transversus abdominis plane block with 15mL of ropivacaine 0.75% on each side. Small IM injections were also made, using a total of < 5mL. Within the first minutes of regaining consciousness, the patient developed abnormal facial movements [time from administration to reaction onset not clearly stated]. An injection of soya oil emulsion [Medialipide] 100mL was initiated for a probable diagnosis of incipient toxicity. Within the following 60–90 seconds, a reduction in symptoms was observed.
