Theophylline First report of manic disorders: *00 case report

An elderly man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease , treated with controlled release theophylline 700 mg/ day, was admitted in an agitated state with spontaneous exteriorisation of symptoms , euphoric exaltation of humour, logarrhoea and insomnia. Confusion , fantasising and instinctual overflowing were absent. Serum theophylline on admission was 10.7,ug/ml.

The patient improved upon theophylline withdrawal. The initiation of phyllines resulted in a similar episode, necessitating the prescription of low-dose benzodiazepines . Jounleaux V. Aubry p.
