Reactions 1064 - 13 Aug 2005 S Ropivacaine Ventricular fibrillation: case report A 15-year-old girl was scheduled to undergo transposition of the tibial tuberosity under combined sciatic/three-in-one block. After injection of 0.75% ropivacaine 18mL, she experienced a generalised seizure quickly followed by ventricular fibrillation. Defibrillation was successful on the second attempt and her haemodynamic status normalised within 2 minutes. The planned procedure was then completed under general anaesthesia. Postoperatively, she experienced no sequelae and was discharged the next day. Gielen M, et al. Successful defibrillation immediately after the intravascular injection of ropivacaine.
