Even-Odd Model in Delhi

The Beijing model

*Beijing started road space rationing in 2008 to curb pollution levels ahead of Olympics.

*Rationing was done for two months. Implementation was through automated traffic surveillance.

*Car owners were compensated by exemptions from paying vehicle taxes for three months.

this system. In the trial period of this system, government also increase number of Bus of DTC (Delhi Transportation Corporation) and also increase number of rides of Metro.

On the first working day, the even odd system leads to reduction of car 5 Lakhs in Delhi. After application of this system crowd transfer to metro, Buses and other public transport. Delhi’s CM says that “the even odd systems become succeed in reduction of pollution level in Delhi and he further added that pollution level is reduced by 50% and traffic problem also reduces”. After trail period of even odd system transport minister state that our city required 2000 more buses.

Result of Even-Odd System in Delhi:

The range of daily average PM 2.5 pollution level was 289-121 during 1st Jan to 15th Jan (2016) which was still poor (as per Safar).During this time period, 6 Lakhs more daily ride increase in buses and for that government hired 1250 additional buses. On other hand 1 Lakhs daily passengers were increased as compare to Dec 2015.Result also says that on an average there is 1.25 vehicles reduces on road in Delhi during this time slab.

For the success of this system, Delhiites are totally responsible, this formula become successful due to their participation. At the end of this trail, Delhi’s CM thanks to Delhiites for their support and participation he further added that during this time slab people got good habit of using public vehicle and car pooling.

The even odd system ended on 15th Jan 2016 on Friday, different air monitoring agencies report their result all show little positive impact on Delhi air quality. All people agreed that it had several direct and indirect benefits. After that finally people start linking between vehicles and air quality.
